Hello Parents,
The Asian club students at Park Center Senior High are hosting the 3rd annual Asian New Year celebration at Park Center Senior High School on Saturday, January 28th, 2017 from 11-4pm. There will be 2 hours of performances from students of the district and members of the community. You will be able to experience diverse cultures, foods and fun activities related to the Asian New Year. Last year, the event drew more than 600 families, and our guest speakers were our superintendent and Brooklyn Park Mayor. Over 100 Asian students in Asian Club at the senior high are working hard to organize this event in coordination with Mrs. Bui (who also works with us at Woodland Elementary!). The culture fashion show will feature two of our 1st grade Woodland students. Additional information is below. Hope to see you there!

Once again, we apologize for the lack of posts lately. Thank you to everyone who checks in regularly, and hopefully you've been using our calendar as well as the links to student online activities! Don't forget to encourage your child to visit mobymax frequently for math and reading practice! Below are some photos from the past couple of weeks. We did a service project recently for Gilette Children's Hospital, and the kids helped make pillows for patients as well as pairing with our fourth grade buddies to make cards for the pillow recipients. In addition to the many amazing student volunteers (5th grade and high school) that help us each week, we had a wonderful volunteer visitor, Miss Mikaela, helping out while she was home from college. She was a student in our FIRST L2 classroom, back when Woodland first opened! It is such a delight to see our students grow and learn, and we LOVE it when they come back to visit and help!!! We've included photos from the Fifth Grade music program. The students did a great job performing, and our class loved seeing their siblings, neighbors and our special fifth grade helpers! We have also spent time in the computer lab working with a program called "Kidspiration" to show the children's understanding of story elements. For our "Read to Someone" time today, we were visited by Mrs. Granger's first graders. The kids all had a great time reading with each other! Mrs. Moe, our GE (Gifted Education) teacher, visited us for the first time on Friday to present the first of a few lessons to our class. She read us a story that celebrates people's unique qualities, the. The kids drew self portraits. They worked very hard, and we look forward to Mrs. Moe's next visit! Brrr! Our first week of school in 2017 is off to a VERY chilly start!
We have quickly gotten back into our routines and are learning a lot about discussing story elements and summarizing what we've read. We had a guest reader this afternoon! Thanks to Demi's mom, Mrs. Holman, for joining us and sharing 2 funny stories written from the perspective of a child's crayons! |
