Dear Parents and Guardians, Every day after recess, the children write reminders and/or important information in their planners for you to see. We encourage the children to take responsibility for showing you their planner each evening, but as they are still learning the routine, please find a way to help make it a habit in your home. Our homework routine is as follows: Mondays: Reading Fluency Practice (the story comes home in an "Arthur Envelope" that the homework helper should sign and return). *Please keep the story and send the envelope back empty each week. The kids should occasionally re-read the stories aloud to help continue to build their oral reading fluency. Tuesdays: Red Folder Sight Word Practice This folder is not due back until Friday, so feel free to keep it and practice throughout the week until your child can read all the words with ease. Once they can fluently read the words, please sign and date the red folder and return it to school. Wednesdays: Math Homework Our math homework is practice work related to our whole-class math lessons. Thursdays: Math Homework Our math homework is practice work related to our whole-class math lessons. Fridays: New Words Their Way (SPELLING) Words The children should focus on sorting the words and learning the different spelling patterns to best prepare for our assessments. *Lists will only come home for upcoming five-day weeks.

As you all may know, homework completion is an expectation at Woodland. When homework is not returned, the children stay in during recess to complete any missing assignments. (Once they are done, they go out to recess.)
In an effort to help your child get the most recess time possible (oh, yes, AND to make sure they are establishing routines at home and continuing to improve their skills :)), we are dedicating this post to homework updates and clarification. DAILY EXPECTATIONS: Please help your child check planners and Take-Home Folders, read at least 10 minutes and record the time read on the class reading calendars, practice spelling words, practice Word Bird words and pik reading sheets until fluent. HOMEWORK SCHEDULE: In addition to the Daily Expectations, this homework is due the following day. Mondays-Fast Track Reading Folder* Tuesdays-Pink Reading Sheet Wednesdays-Math Sheet Thursdays-Math Sheet (This is our spelling test day, so look for a corrected spelling test in your child's folder.) Fridays-New Spelling Words and Word Bird Words *This week, (Monday, November 8th) we sent home 2 poems in the folder instead of the listed story. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused. Due to a copy shortage, we did not have the story ready in time to send home, but wanted to keep up the routine of sending something to read in the envelope. EXTRA HOMEWORK: There may be times that we send home an extra poem or math homework to reinforce what we are learning at school and/or to show you what we are up to. When this happens, we will try to make note of it in the childrens' planners, and we will remind them that they need to explain it to you. Your child may also have homework from Team Time. They will be responsible for communicating this to you, as it does not get written in their planners. Check it out! We will soon have an RSS feed so you can get a notice when there are new blog posts! (If you know how to add this, please e-mail Jody or Scott...we are having more trouble than we thought we would!) |
