Dear Families,
We are very sorry that we forgot to send new Word Bird words (sight words) home today! We have prepared them to go home tomorrow, and apologize for the inconvenience. The words for this week are: no, cannot and have. Thank you for understanding! Scott and Jody

Today we learned about cool and warm colors and perspective in art. We completed two fun turkey projects that are coming home today. We are so thankful for our fun and creative students, and hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! Dear Parents and Guardians,
It has been brought to our attention that a number of emails sent by classroom parents have not made it to our inboxes! For some unknown reason, many parent e-mails have gone directly to our 'junk' folders, and we did not see them. Please help us make sure we see and read what you send! 1. Please email both of us: [email protected] and [email protected] 2. If we have not responded within 24 hours (usually much sooner), please resend and/or call the school to get a hold of us at 763-315-6400. Thank you for your understanding as we try to get this figured out! Picture it, moms and dads...You are a kindergarten student at Woodland Elementary. You have been waiting all morning for recess. The children are sent to get ready for recess, and this is the scene: The images portrayed are actual former Woodland first graders. We used their images to increase the dramatic effect. ;-)
With all that is going on around you, you still manage to find your way to your cubby. Now...do YOU know which snowpants are yours?? At Woodland, the children go outside for recess every day unless it is raining or we have a wind chill of 0 degrees or less. Please be sure to send outerwear that is appropriate for 30 minutes of outside play every day. Gear like snowpants and boots can be left at school during the week if you prefer, but we will send it home each weekend. It is helpful to send winter gear in a separate, reusable bag to help prevent items in your child's backpack from getting wet. Please help your child pass the test by clearly labeling all of his or her winter gear. We have even seen parents use puffy fabric paint to write their children's initials on the heels of their boots! So many items are lost on a daily basis in a school of our size, and labeling items will make it so much easier to get things back to their owners. Thank you for your help! Stages Theater worked together with our school to provide an after school workshop this fall, and today we were invited to a dress rehearsal of their production of The Lion King. Our very own Lilly P. was a cast member as well as many other students throughout our building. It was a great performance, and you can bring your children to see the performance yourselves starting tomorrow!Performances will be held at Maple Grove Middle School on Thursday & Friday, November 17 & 18 at 7 pm, and Saturday, November 19 at 2 pm. Admission is free! As of Tuesday, we have 18 iPads for student use in our classroom! The kids have been trained in how to use them, share them and care for them. This morning, the children worked at shared iPads listening to stories together during our 'Read to Partner' time. We use TUMBLEBOOKS to listen to stories. The link is also on our Student Links page-username is wdstu and password is books. You can access TUMBLEBOOKS at home, too! Please note: if you are using the program on a mobile device, choose MOBILE for the 'language'. Our third Woodland Community dinner will take place tomorrow (Wednesday, November 16th) from 11AM to close at Pieology on Main Street in Maple Grove. If you show the flyer we sent home (or show the flyer on page 2 of this LINK), Woodland can earn up to 50% of the proceeds from your meal. We hope to see you there!
We met with Mrs. Cobb in the computer lab today! She talked with us about the parts of the computers we will be working with, then the kids used the computers to label computer parts, change their 'pointer' to a drawing tool as well as an eraser and if they completed all their tasks, they were able to use drawing tools on a blank page. We will visit the lab weekly until spring testing season hits and the big kids need the labs for MCAs and MAP tests. :-) We have had a fun day today! This morning was our October reading calendar reward, and kids who read 300 minutes or more in October were able to choose between extra recess outside and choice time in Mrs. Frisch's classroom. We also had three special guests! Mrs. Beard and Mr. and Mrs. Stevens, Ella's mom and grandparents, stopped in to read a story to the class and help with our first watercolor painting activity. We painted our Word Birds-we will send them home with an explanation of how to use them on Monday. Have a great weekend! |
