Tomorrow, March 23rd, will be our last day together until Spring Break! We will have one week off from school. The children have Spring Break journals that they will need to write in daily-please help set aside some time for them to reflect and write.
Before we say goodbye to everyone, we will have an All-School Beach Day! The kids are invited to dress in (school-appropriate) beachwear (sunglasses, towels, summery clothing), and we will do some special fun things throughout the day. When selecting beachwear, please make sure everything in labeled, and if your child wears shorts or sandals, send appropriate outerwear, as the children will all go outside for recess after lunch. Our first Friday back from break, April 6th, is the day of our school carnival! It will be from 5:30-8:30 PM. If you or someone you know can help out and volunteer, visit the sign-up genius link.

Earlier this week, we had a guest speaker, Bryan Skavnak, who came in to share some stories related to "Being A Nice Kid", with a focus on owning our actions. He is a golf instructor who is also working on spending time with groups of children sharing ways that they can make the extra effort to 'Be the Nice Kid'. You can check out more about him at http://www.thehappiestgolfer.com/ The kids enjoyed spending time with him! The Anoka schools were on break this week, so we were blessed with some AWESOME teen volunteers from Champlin Park in addition to some of our more regular Park Center volunteers. The kids really enjoy their time with our helpers! Some of Mrs. Pietsch and Mrs. Miller's students stopped by to perform "The Tricky Garden" for our class. They did a great job, and it was so fun to be their audience! We also had some sneaky visitors on Friday morning...We think some Leprechauns used our BATHROOM! It was a very silly way to start our day! Trimester 3 began on Monday, and Tri 2 report cards went home on Wednesday. Please go over the report card with your children (look for things to celebrate, and identify something they can work on). The report card ENVELOPE (with nothing inside) needs to be returned with your signature and your child's ASAP. Last week, we ended the trimester with an Eagle Celebration. At the celebration, Mrs. Beckler announced the recipients of the District 279 Investment in Youth awards. Our long-time volunteer, Miss Sarah, was honored! We were so happy to celebrate her and all the time she gives back to our students, school and community! Here is what Mrs. Beckler had to say about Sarah: Sarah has made a significant investment in the betterment of education. In addition to her own academic studies (she graduated high school last year with her 2-year associate’s degree), Sarah spends 3+ hours a week in two kindergarten classrooms helping with small reading groups, technology instruction, brain breaks and some yoga instruction. She has also helped individual students with math skills, letter identification and name writing. Sarah also makes a significant investment in helping our community, exhibiting involvement and dedication toward the community and its members. Sarah is a member of the Brooklyn Park community, and she is actively involved with students and other community members at Woodland and throughout Brooklyn Park. . She currently manages a Karate studio in Brooklyn Park, where she has built and maintained many student and family relationships. When she walks through the halls of Woodland, kids from all grade levels are excited to see her, and she always greets them warmly and makes them feel special. Finally, Sarah has also shown a significant investment in modeling for youth, demonstrating through her words and actions an example for young people. Sarah attended Woodland Elementary, and continues to be an active member within the Brooklyn Park community, volunteering her time and services to many. Sarah acts as a role model at all times with her generous, charitable nature, her intuitiveness, professionalism, intelligence and calm demeanor. Children absolutely see her as a role model both at Woodland, in the Karate studio, and out and about in the community. Way to go (and thanks a million) Miss Sarah! |
