Malijah brought in a pumpkin from her garden this week, so we used it for a pumpkin investigation! We made observations and predictions about the pumpkin, then filled out our own sheets with the information. There is a blank copy of the same information on the back of the sheet if you want to do the activity with one of your own pumpkins. The kids all put their sheets in their cubbies to bring home today. Thanks again, Malijah! Levy kids have PE on odd days, Lund kids have PE on even days. Please make sure your child has sneakers on PE days. Thank you!
Monday-Day 1 Tuesday-day 2 Wednesday-day 3 Thursday-day 4 Friday-day 5 What's Happening This Week? We are working on identifying main idea and supporting details in pictures, passages and stories. Our letter of the week is Tt. We will practice writing the letter, making the Tt sound, identifying and making words with the letter T. We are wrapping up our work on one-to-one correspondence in math as well as writing the numbers correctly. We have our Fall Party this Friday, November 6th, from 3:00-3:45 PM! Can you help? We have added a donation page to our navigation menu! Please take a peek to see if there is anything you have that we could use! We accept gently used items, and we have also requested gift cards to some stores where we purchase a lot of classroom supplies. (One thing we would LOVE are more costumes to set up a costume shop in our dramatic play area!) Another valued donation we would like to ask for is your time. :-) We are looking for parent volunteers to come in on a weekly basis from 11-11:45 to work with kids and occasionally help with some classroom projects. If you are available, please let us know (by email or phone) which day of the week works for you. We really appreciate it! We are offering some extra credit work for anyone who is interested. After collecting candy on Saturday, have your child sort his or her candy on the floor or a table according to whatever attributes they like, and make it into a life-size graph (no graph paper needed). After the sorting, please take a picture of your child with his or her graph and send it in to school when you have completed the activity. If your child does not collect candy on Halloween, you can have him or her sort something else in the house (buttons, socks, cans of soup...) and take a photograph of his or her work. Graphing is a skill the kids will work on throughout their academic careers, and opportunities to make and talk about graphs will enhance their learning both at home and at school. Hi Kindergarten Parents!
Thank you all for meeting with us at conferences to talk about your wonderful children and set goals for the school year! We practice MANY skills every day in our classrooms-academic skills, social skills and plain old life skills! As we work with your children to help them become more independent, one of our expectations is that they will be able to get in and out of their 'outside gear' quickly and with very little adult assistance. To help us meet this goal, we ask that you make some time at home to have your child practice getting in and out of jackets, boots, mittens, snowpants etc. You can make it a game-time them to see how long it takes and graph their progress! Some school-savvy tips: *LABEL EVERYTHING! Permanent marker and fabric paint work best. You would not believe how many black, size small snowpants get strewn all over the floor and eventually make their way to the lost and found (or the wrong home) each year! *TUCK MITTENS, HATS and SCARVES in the SLEEVES OF YOUR COAT *KEEP AN EXTRA PAIR OF SOCKS IN YOUR CHILD'S BACKPACK *SEND A PLASTIC OR REUSABLE BAG (LABELLED) FOR WET SNOWGEAR TO GO TO AND FROM SCHOOL Thank you so much! With your help, we may be able to prevent tears, missed recess time and lots of extra Target and WalMart trips for additional snowgear! Levy kids have PE on odd days, Lund kids have PE on even days. Please make sure your child has sneakers on PE days. Thank you!

Today we worked on a new piece of our Daily Five Routine: Listen to Reading. We used the iPads and the kids worked in small groups to log in to Tumblebooks, select and listen to a story. You can log in to Tumblebooks from home, too! Tap on the button above for a link to the site. Username is wdstu and the password is books. We told the kids that they could count the minutes they listen to stories in Tumblebooks on their reading calendars. We continued our study of leaves today, using paper clips to measure the length of two leaves and also using real leaves to make our own creations-in a style similar to Lois Lowry's Leaf Man. Mrs. Larson, our school counselor, visited us today to present the first of a series of lessons. She will visit twice a month through March, helping build our students' social skills.
