We have had a VERY busy week, and we know many of the children are looking forward to Halloween this weekend. We are offering some extra credit work for anyone who is interested. After collecting candy on Sunday, have your child sort his or her candy on the floor or a table according to whatever attributes they like, and make it into a life-size graph (no graph paper needed). After the sorting, please take a picture of your child with his or her graph and send it in to school when you have completed the activity. If your child does not collect candy on Halloween, you can have him or her sort something else in the house (buttons, socks, cans of soup...) and take a photograph of his or her work. Graphing is a skill the kids will work on throughout their academic careers, and oppurtunities to make and talk about graphs will enhance their learning both at home and at school.

Welcome to our new site! We are excited to have more opportunities to share parts of our days with you all. Feel free to check out the different tabs...we hope to have even more information and links available in the next couple weeks. If you click on the photo gallery, you can view pictures from our field trip to the apple orchard. Enjoy!
Additionally, we would like to thank you all for coming to conferences. It was great to meet with you and talk about your wonderful children! We had some excellent questions and suggestions that we will work hard to address and accomodate through our website. We will be adding some spelling and reading help information on our parent link page (soon) and we have added information about our double classroom on our Meet LSquared page. This week, we began our science unit; Pebbles, Sand and Silt. The kids will have lots of opportunities to observe and describe rocks and their properties. On our first day of exploration, the kids each got 3 rocks: basalt, scoria and tuff. They had a magnifying glass to get a closer look at each rock, and they also had an opportunity to discover how hard each rock was in comparison to the others. We will continue our work with rocks, pebbles, sand and silt over the next few weeks. Be sure to ask you children what they are learning! |
