We ended our first trimester with a fun Eagle Celebration this afternoon! We will be working on report cards throughout the weekend, and they will be sent home on Wednesday.
In all the excitement, we forgot to send home the December reading calendars! We will be sure to send them home on Monday, and please send in completed November reading calendars by Wednesday so your children can participate in the reading calendar reward. As we reflect on the past trimester, we are so impressed with how much everyone has grown and learned! We adore this group of kindergarteners, and are excited to see what the rest of the year will bring!

We have had a busy short week filled with a combination of school work/assessments and fun! We sketched and painted turkeys, worked on our writing, practiced Word Bird words and wrote about things we are thankful for. We hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving break, and look forward to seeing everyone again on Monday! This afternoon, the kids visited the school's computer labs for an introductory lesson with Mrs. Cobb. We learned about the parts of a desktop computer, and had a chance to work with the mouse on our own. We will visit the lab weekly for a variety of lessons and activities over the next few months. Turkey Bingo was a huge success! We loved seeing so many of our families having fun and supporting our PTO. We even had some bingo winners from our room!!! Thank you ALL for the AWESOME donations to our Silent Auction. In addition to full baskets donated to kindergarten, we were able to split up the many donations and make ELEVEN very appealing "Artastic" baskets! We will know more about how much the event helped our PTO after the board meeting tomorrow evening. Thanks again! Today we started working with our whiteboards! The kids did a great job using the new learning tools responsibly. After time exploring, we worked on sounding out words to help prepare for our first phonics assessment. The kids took their assessment this afternoon. We broke the 'scoring' down, looking for beginning, middle and end sounds. The assessments will come home in a few days. New Word Bird words came home today! Please remember to return the empty envelope signed and dated ONCE for each set of words. We need the envelopes back by Friday each week. If you ever need to locate missing words, we have each week's list of three words on our class calendar. New words come home every Monday. Weeks with no school on Monday will not have new words. If you haven't returned your child's big brown turkey decorated to show what he or she is thankful for yet, please complete and return them by Wednesday. Butterbraid Pick-Up will be Wednesday after school. If you turned in any orders a few weeks back, please be sure to stop by the school's front lobby between 4:00 and 7:00 PM on Wednesday, the 8th to collect your frozen butterbraids! Turkey Bingo is THIS FRIDAY, at Woodland, from 5:30-8:00PM! There will be food, bingo, prizes and a Silent Auction with MANY baskets and items that have been donated for you to bid on. We hope to see you there! The Extreme Saver Coupon Book sale ends on November 14th. ALL unpurchased books must be returned by that date. If you do not plan to sell the books, please return them as soon as possible. Your child worked hard to paint a special Word Bird last week. Today, the Word Birds are coming home with their first "meal"! Please take a moment to read the bright pink note accompanying the bird and envelope this evening.
We have shared some ideas about how to use the Word Bird at home (one suggestion is that the bird only 'eats' the words the kids know automatically-the ones they don't know yet can be clipped to the outside of the bird or kept in plain sight for practice). Please remember: The Word Bird and weekly word cards stay at home, and the envelope gets returned EVERY week with ONE signature per week. Thanks for your support! Friday was extra special in kindergarten! We had our Reading Calendar Reward (this month, kids who turned in reading calendars with 300 or more minutes got to choose from a variety of activities to participate in) and we celebrated all the students who raised over 100$ for Woodland's Fun Run with the Run of Champions! The kids who raised over 100$ got the opportunity to run through the halls of Woodland while the rest of us all cheered for them. It was great fun! Thank you for sending in photos of your kids graphing candy! We will continue to add the pictures to this post as they come in (no deadline). If you choose not to sort/graph candy, your child can sort any other objects and you can send a photo of that sort to us via email or Remind. |
