Friday was a "Sports Day" at Woodland, and we were able to help the kids show some Minnesota Twins baseball pride with new TC Bear hats for each kindergartner! We are lucky to have a dear friend who works for the Minnesota Twins, and he donated the fun hats to our students. Thank you, Mr. Warcken! We wrote student names in the hats to help keep them from getting mixed up. Enjoy the warm and ADORABLE hats!

Hi Everyone-
We want to quickly share 3 important messages. 1: The online conference scheduling is now available. Click HERE to schedule your conference for your child. Conference dates are Tuesday, January 29, Thursday, January 31 and Wednesday, February 6th. Thank you-we look forward to catching up with you again! 2. We have had some problems with our Remind App. It seems as though not everyone has been receiving our messages, and we also heard that anyone who uses Remind on a device with Verizon will no longer be bale to access it the same way. You CAN change your setting to receive Remind messages via email. See at the very end of this post for more detailed information directly from Remind (If you haven't signed up for Remind yet, or need to make a change, there is a link on the right side of our blog page to the information for signing up. Thank you!): 3: Thanks for staying with us-one last thing, we are looking for more volunteers to help out with conference meals. If you are interested in sharing your culinary skills with our staff, (we are grateful for ANYTHING!), please visit the sign up link HERE. FROM REMIND: Hi there, We’re sorry to write with disappointing news. Recently, we learned that Verizon will be charging Remind a new fee that makes it impossible for us to continue supporting free text messaging for anyone who has Verizon Wireless as their phone carrier. Please read on for all the important details—we promise to keep this as short as we can. What’s happening? To offer our text messaging service free of charge, Remind has always paid for each text that our users receive or send. Now, Verizon is charging Remind an additional fee intended for companies that send spam over its network. Your Remind messages aren’t spam, but our efforts to resolve the issue with Verizon haven’t been successful. As a result, the Verizon fee will increase our costs of providing text messaging by 11X—pushing our annual costs into the millions of dollars. This isn’t financially feasible for us to support, and it’s forcing us to end Remind text messaging for everyone who has a wireless plan with Verizon. How will this affect you? Beginning January 28, 2019, the people in your classes who normally get your Remind messages as texts will no longer receive these messages if they have Verizon Wireless as their phone carrier. What can you do? To make sure people in your classes continue receiving your messages, ask them to download the mobile app or enable email notifications—both of which are free of charge. Our team’s also working hard on a solution that allows your classes to continue to use Remind by text, and we’ll share more details with you before January 28. In the meantime, we’ll keep fighting to make sure educators, students, and parents have access to effective communication. To do this, we need your help: If using Remind has made a positive impact in your classroom, at your school, or anywhere in between, please ask Verizon to reverse the fee here: www.remind.com/verizon-fee We’re very grateful for your support, and we’ll be in touch soon with an update. Sincerely, The Remind team It is great to be back at school and in our old routine with the class! We hope you all had a restful break. At school, we are working on analyzing story elements (identify characters, setting, problem and solution) and summarizing and synthesizing to understand a story. You may have noticed that math homework is coming home regularly now (on Tuesdays and Thursdays). Today's homework requires a bit of set-up by an adult. The kids will be tracing/writing numbers in sand. You can use any kind of container (cookie sheet, shoebox lid...) and you can use any material that works in your house (sand, salt, sprinkles, flour, glitter...). We have attached pictures of what we used to model the work to this post. Upcoming Events: Thursday evening is the EL Family Night at Woodland Elementary. Details went home with students in the EL Program, and can be found on the school website. Friday is Rainbow Day at Woodland! Kindergarten's "color" is orange-please help your child find something orange to wear. This Friday is Woodland Movie Night! We will be showing the movie, "Coco". Please join us at 6:30 PM in the cafeteria. |
