0 Comments We have had a VERY busy week, and we know many of the children are looking forward to Halloween this weekend. We are offering some extra credit work for anyone who is interested. After collecting candy on Friday, have your child sort his or her candy on the floor or a table according to whatever attributes they like, and make it into a life-size graph (no graph paper needed). After the sorting, please take a picture of your child with his or her graph and send it in to school when you have completed the activity. If your child does not collect candy on Halloween, you can have him or her sort something else in the house (buttons, socks, cans of soup...) and take a photograph of his or her work. Graphing is a skill the kids will work on throughout their academic careers, and oppurtunities to make and talk about graphs will enhance their learning both at home and at school.

Our high school volunteer, Miss Sarah, also teaches at Brooklyn Park National Karate. She was kind enough to teach us some self-defense moves during our Morning Meeting today. She reminded the class before and after the lesson that in Karate, we only use our might for right; meaning what we learned is only to be used in a situation where the kids of their loved ones are in danger. They learned how to pull out of a stranger's grip, then run for help. The kids really enjoyed the lesson, and we look forward to other mini lessons from Miss Sarah! Miss Sarah also said that if any of our students mention her name at BP National Karate, they can receive a free uniform and 5 free lessons (new students only). The phone number is 763-424-8868. Thanks again, Miss Sarah! We ended our short vowel study this week, with a focus on short u. Today we read The Hungry Giant, and made Bommy Knockers! Check out our frightening Hungry Giants! |
