Hi Everyone! We are wrapping up our time with the class set of ipads today-the kids get to try a variety of activities, and they did a great job caring for the ipads, too! Today marks the end of the first trimester, and as we reflect on the students and school year so far, we are so grateful for how hard the kids work, their positive attitudes and their desire to learn! Thank you, too, for your partnership with us and for supporting your children's educations and social/emotional growth as they learn how to be part of a school community. Trimester 1 report cards will come home with students on Wednesday, December 4th. The envelope will need to be signed by you and your child, and returned to school (please empty the contents before sending it back). We hope you all have a lovely, restful break and a Happy Thanksgiving!

Last week, we started a new reading unit, focused on analyzing characters and visualizing to understand characters. We also began a new math unit, where we are currently working on comparing numbers and counting with tally marks. In science, we are learning the differences between living and nonliving things. In our classroom, we are participating in a technology pilot. The technology we have been provided with is a cart of about 30 iPads. With the classroom ipads we already had, we will have enough for EVERY child to use during instruction and for exploration as we try out a number of educational apps and more! The kids are VERY excited to be part of this pilot! Next week, we will explore a couple of educational apps, and if they go well, we will be sure to send home information about how to access at home! One of the apps we are learning more about is Seesaw, which is essentially another mode of communication for school and families, but it provides more sharing opportunities as well as fun activities we can assign to the kids. We know some teachers in other grade levels at Woodland have been using the app, and are working with the in-house experts to see how it could be useful in kindergarten. Finally, Turkey Bingo is TONIGHT! It is at Woodland, from 5:30-8:00 PM. There will be a Silent Auction, a Raffle, Food and Drink, and, of course, BINGO! We will both be there tonight, and hope to see you, too! Our next big school event, Turkey Bingo, is scheduled for Friday, November 15th. Our kindergartners have been preparing by decorating their turkeys that will line the halls! If your turkey isn't finished, please try to get it turned in by Friday. Turkey Bingo is an after school event with food sales, a silent auction, a raffle and, of course, BINGO! Families are invited to join in the fun and get to know each other at this fun event. If you or another family member is able, please consider volunteering some of your time that evening-we still need more help! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080c4aaba72ba0f85-turkey3 Finally, Kindergarten is putting together a themed basket for the Silent Auction. Our theme is ART, and I will include some photos of what we have so far. If you haven't already, please consider donating some items to help make our basket GREAT! Thank you all, and we hope to see you at Turkey Bingo! *We happen to know a couple of raffle items include ice cream and dinner with L2!! ;-) |
