Kindergarten Goal-Setting Conferences are scheduled for October 10th, 12th and 17th, with meeting times available before and after school. We look forward to spending time with each of you talking about your children!
We use an online conference scheduling program at Woodland. If you have other children at Woodland, you can select their conference times and dates at the same time. The link is: https://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Woodland_Elementary_School The sooner you sign up, the more likely you are to get one of your ideal time slots! PLEASE NOTE: Online Conference Scheduling will not be available to schedule until after 4:00PM today (Thursday, 9/28)

Our first Scholastic Book Order came in today! If you ordered books before 9/15, your child will bring home the books you ordered this afternoon. Thanks to our large order, we were able to earn a free book for EVERY child in our room as well as OVER $30.00 worth of books for our classroom library!
Thanks so much to everyone for their generosity...while we are on that note of gratitude, we would also like to thank the MANY families who donated items and gift cards to our class this fall! SO many wonderful things came pouring in so quickly, we were unable to track exactly what came in from which children, so thank you notes regrettably did NOT happen. Please know we are so VERY grateful for all of your support in making this an amazing school year! Thank you to everyone who came out in the chilly weather to socialize with our other kindergarten families! We had a great turnout, and it was fun to see everyone at dinnertime! During the day yesterday, we worked on the proper way to hold a pencil (pointer on top, thumb on the side, middle finger resting like a kickstand underneath). We also had out first of three lessons with our school's GE (Gifted Education) teacher, Mrs. Moe. She taught us about Mindfulness and "The Power of YET". The kids brought home a worksheet showing what they can do now, and what they can not do YET. The back of the sheet had a true/false mindfulness activity as well. We had a busy day today! We have started talking about the "O" in SOAR, which stands for "Own your actions", as well as what that looks, sounds and feels like in our room. We will continue this discussion throughout the week. We learned about the letters that are made with 'just' sticks (straight lines:horizontal, vertical and diagonal), and practiced making thise lines. We also started our writing lessons, beginning with the understanding that we ALL have stories to tell-they are resting in our heads, just waiting to be awakened! The kids understand that we are working on building our stamina, and one activity we are working on building our stamina with is our independent reading (Read to Self). Many kids made it for the entire 5 minute practice time today! We will keep practicing and increasing our time throughout the next few weeks, with an end goal of about 15 minutes. We have encouraged the kids to work on stamina at home as well! Our school's biggest fundraiser, the Fun Run, will take place this Friday, September 29th. Each student is encouraged to try and raise at least 35 dollars to help meet the building-wide goal. This year, it is even easier than past years, as you can raise money ONLINE! At this time, we only have 6 of our students enrolled online, and we are in the top ten classrooms for money raised...just THINK of what we could do if more people log on!? :)
Please consider registering your child online at https://www.thegetmovincrew.com/ We checked out the registration process, and it is Today, we had our first all-school BBQ with our new kindergarteners-it was lots of fun! It was great seeing so many family members able to join us! We apologize if we didn't get a chance to say hello to everyone, but are thrilled that such a large number of people came to eat with the kids! If you got some photos from the BBQ that you are willing to share on our site, please send them and we will post as soon as possible-we somehow managed to miss getting very many photos of the event! In our classroom, the kids had a few new fun things to explore during choice time. We have brand new food, plates and serving ware in the dramatic play area, and we have ourclassroom iPads up and running for student use! It truly was a Fun Friday. Hopefully you will all have a WONDERFUL WEEKEND :-) Our DAYTIME all-school BBQ lunch is tomorrow, September 22! Our students will eat A LITTLE EARLIER THAN NORMAL, at 11:20 AM. Families are invited to join their children-bring a blanket to sit on...we eat outside when the weather is nice!
A reminder went home to anyone who hasn't sent in a white t-shirt for our tie-dye project. We will dye the shirts before our first field trip, and the plan is to wear our shirts on class field trips! Today, we visited a real school bus and reviewed what we know about bus safety (including the DANGER ZONE). The kids did a great job! Two more reminders: Our Kindergarten evening picnic is next Tuesday, the 26th (please try to join us!) and if you haven't joined our group on "Remind", you can text the message @lundan to 81010 THANKS!! Today, the first round of kids who registered online for the Fun Run fundraiser got to go to Mrs. Beckler's office for a small prize-our rooms are in the top three for fundraising right now!
We told the class about a couple of Woodland traditions today. Thursdays are SUPERHERO DAY: staff and kids often wear superhero shirts or sweatshirts (no costumes). Fridays are WOODLAND WEAR DAY, and kids can wear school clothes (available for sale on the Woodland website) or the school colors, blue and green. Neither trend is mandatory-just a fun community builder! For yellow, we read some Curious George books and made our own monkey (and banana) hats! Media Center tomorrow-please send library books! |
