This week, we worked with the letter Ww. :) We also made our own paper samples in science, started a new math unit (be prepared for LOTS of practice with number writing!), and we even went on a field trip to the Minnesota Children's Museum! Everyone had so much fun on the field trip, and we are so grateful for our many parent volunteers which enabled us to make small groups for exploring! Our next field trip is set for May 17th, and we hope we will have lots of volunteers once again! (More information will come home in mid-late April.) February Reading Calendars will need to be turned in by Friday, May 2, in order to participate in the Reading Calendar Reward. The kids are expected to read at least 300 minutes a month and return their signed calendars to school. Have a fun weekend!

We have our field trip today!
There will be no reading homework tonight. Please take some time to talk about what your children experienced on the field trip tonight! It's a good thing we have a day off tomorrow-we have had a BUSY week! We completed a math assessment, celebrated the 100th day of school, began a new reading unit (learning about fix-up and monitor strategies and summarizing stories to help us understand what we read) AND celebrated Valentine's Day and National Read Aloud Day!
We do not have school Friday or Monday, and our field trip is scheduled for Wednesday. If your child is bringing a lunch from home, we will send home decorated paper bags for you to pack their lunch in on Tuesday. The cooks will use the bags our kids decorated to pack lunches for anyone who ordered a school-made lunch on Wednesday. Enjoy the long weekend! And it's only Wednesday! We have continued our work in science learning about wood. The children can identify five types of wood: pine, basswood, redwood, plywood and particleboard. We are learning about ways to change wood, and today the kids used sandpaper to change the shape of their wood samples.
Yesterday, we had a special visit from one of our building speech pathologists, Mrs. Baumgartner. She helped us work on blending sounds to make words, finding rhyming words, and she even gave us some bonus tips on the correct way to make the short e and short u sounds! |
