We managed to stay dry throughout our field trip to the Minnesota Zoo! It was a gray day, but the rain held off while we were exploring. The kids had an AWESOME time checking out the different exhibits and spending time with friends. Thank you to our parent volunteers that helped with our small groups and ensured that all the kids stayed safe and had a great time! Please continue to email any pictures you took-we will post them as we receive them!

We have been practicing our skills of comparing and contrasting in reading, and the kids are doing an excellent job! Yesterday, the kids worked in small groups to make their own Venn Diagrams comparing and contrasting clothes from the past to clothes in the present. As we continue our study of wood and paper in science, the kids had an opportunity to work with sandpaper today. They each got a piece of basswood and spent time sanding it to see if they could make sawdust as well as if the wood changes when they sand it. This afternoon, the music teachers invited us to be audience members for the First Grade Spring Sing. It was so fun watching the first graders perform, and thinking about how in one short year, it will be our students who are performing for NEW kindergartners! Thank you, First Graders! Champlin Park High School is hosting a Lullaby concert for the public this evening! Kids are encouraged to attend in their pajamas. It is a lovely concert-we hope you can make it! Would you love to help children grow their reading or math skills, succeed in school and get extra support? If your answer is yes, you can be trained to serve as a tutor with Minnesota Reading Corps or Minnesota Math Corps! Whether you want to explore an educational career, re-enter the workforce, or give back to your community, you can succeed as a tutor. Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps have provided direct services to over 35,000 children in more than 700 schools across the state. See the attached document for details on how you can become a Minnesota Reading or Math Corps Tutor! At Woodland, we've been given 4 reading positions and 2 math for the 2017-2018 school year.
