What's Happening in our Classroom?
In reading, we have wrapped up a unit focused on comparing and contrasting and determining text importance. Now we are working on identifying cause and effect and making connections when we are reading. Both skills can be used in all of our subject areas and throughout our days, so we have been able to make many connections with our learning! In math, we are wrapping up unit 5, where we have been building on the children's ability to add and subtract and to use the operations as they make up story problems. We are working with numbers 1-20, deepening our understanding of teen numbers and place value. As we move into unit 6, we will study money, time, measurement and numbers. In Science, we have been working on the unit, Wood and Paper. We are learning to develop a growing curiosity and interest in the physical world around us, observe and describe the properties of different kinds of wood and paper, compare and contrast different kinds of wood and paper and communicate our observations. In a kindergarten "extra", we have hatched baby chicks! Pictures will be on our blog soon. We incubated 19 eggs for 3 weeks, and now we are the happy foster family for 16 adorable chicks! We will keep them here for a few more days, then our high school volunteer, Miss Sarah B., will bring them to her aunt and uncle's farm.
