We had an excellent afternoon at the farm! Thanks to all the parents who helped out-we had a great time! As pictures come in, we will add them to the blog. Thanks for a fun day!

Please click HERE to select a time and date for your fall goal setting conference! We will meet with each of you for a 20 minute conference twice this school year. Please go to the LINK to sign up for a time that works for your family. We look forward to spending time with you talking about your children! *If you have any trouble signing up, you can call the office to set up your time at 763-315-6400. Thank you! Hi Everyone! Well, our intent was to give you a heads-up that we would start slowing down our blog posts to about 1-2 posts/week, and it looks as though you have probably figured that out for yourselves by now! ;-) We have had busy days (and nights!) learning more about your children, getting the new math curriculum up and running and easing into our daily routines. Tomorrow is our class field trip to the farm! We will go in the afternoon-please make sure your children are dressed for the weather-we will spend a lot of time outside. We will give your children their "Field Trip Shirts" tomorrow (blue tie-dye). The kids can wear them whenever they want, but we ask that they always wear them when our class goes on a field trip. Our class color is BLUE, if you want to coordinate a long sleeved shirt and or sweatshirt with the shirt we will give them. We will visit the library for new books tomorrow-please send back the last book your children checked out so they may exchange it for a new one! Our photo slide show has snapshots from the last few days of school-Enjoy! The students at Woodland Elementary will participate in a Fun Run on Friday, September 28. The Fun Run is a FUN way for us to raise money for our school without having to go door-to-door selling things. The money raised is used to purchase materials for classrooms, supervision on the playground, and saving to improve our playground. These funds also ensure that student enrichment events continue to happen. All donations are tax deductible. Almost 100% of funds raised (minus expenses) will go directly to the school and students!
A large white collection envelope went home last week, but you can REGISTER ONLINE, and it is so much easier to email friends and family for their support! Additionally, just by registering your child, they will earn a sucker from our PTO! Please click on one of the button links and register today! The highest earning class also wins a reward! An added fun bonus: if we meet our school's goal of $20,000.00, Mr. Nelson, our principal, will allow us to turn him into a HUMAN SUNDAE! Hi Everyone! With the rain, the children stayed in at recess for indoor activities. We had a guest teacher, Mrs. Busch, with us today, and she helped with math groups, stories and much more! We got new books at the library, visited a real school bus to practice bus safety (and see how dangerous the Danger Zone can be), and we even added some scrap paper as an option at choice time. The kids were VERY creative, and it's been a fun day! Tomorrow is our evening Kindergarten social event, "Chillin' and Grillin' with Kindergarten", from 5:30-7:00. This event is RAIN OR SHINE! If it is raining, we will eat and visit in our classrooms. Even if you didn't RSVP, please feel free to join us! We will serve food to families who have paid in advance first, but if there are extras, we can cook something up for you! (Or, you can eat before or after, and just come visit with our classmates and their parents!) Today was our final color day, and we ended with a big crown activity! Lots of kids were asking, "What color is tomorrow?" :) Although we have enjoyed the fun color activities, it is time to get busy with our phonics, reading, math (and more) instruction! Tomorrow is our library day-please make sure to return books. Tonight is the family dinner at Zupas-if you can, please come and gather with other Woodland families! Have a great evening! We hope everyone enjoyed the weekend! We got right back into our routines this morning, adding a few more responsibilities for the children and more math instruction and activities. For the color black, we learned a song, read "Ten Black Dots" and made our own pictures with 10 or fewer black dots. The children's creations will be decorating our hallway soon! This is a busy week! Here are a few reminders: Wednesday-LIBRARY DAY-please return books so your child can exchange them for new ones! Thursday-Chillin' and Grillin' with Kindergarten EVENING EVENT at Woodland (Rain or Shine!) 5:30-7:00PM Friday-All-School BBQ (also rain or shine)-there will be a few tables to sit at, but many families bring towels or a blanket to sit on with their children. Tomorrow is Yellow Day (our LAST color day)! On Friday, we read "It Looked Like Spilt Milk", a book about different cloud shapes and what they resemble. We used white crayons on blue paper to make our own clouds and write about what we saw in them. The children's work will be compiled into our own class book. We had more student helpers during our Number Corner time, and the children are really getting into the routine! We also wrapped up talking about how we can be safe at school. Next week, we will focus on how we Own our Actions at school. Our Fun Run donation drive begins this weekend! Please check your child's Take-Home Folder for the large white collection envelope and more information. This is the school's primary fundraiser. Please consider donating and/or asking family members to donate 10-20$. Thank you! We only have TWO more color days left! Monday will be Black Day, and Tuesday is Yellow Day! After the color days are through, we will work more on our Daily Five Literacy routines (Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Work on Words, and Work on Writing). Have a great weekend! Today we sand about turtles, frogs, and the color green! We are using more student helpers during our Number Corner math time, and the kids made turtles after hearing a story about Franklin the turtle. Tomorrow is White Day! *To the right of this post is a button link to SIGN UP FOR PEACHJAR. This is the ONLY way building, district and community information is being sent out this year. PLEASE SIGN UP, and scroll through the emails each week for lunch calendars, building enrichment activities and schoolwide events. There is also a link to all PEACHJAR flyers on the Woodland website. Thank you! We learned a VERY long Brown song today :) We also read and sang "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?", then made our own Brown Bear crowns. Tomorrow is Green Day!! |
