Monday-day 4 Tuesday-day 5 Wednesday-day 6 Thursday-day 1 Friday-day 2 What's Happening This Week? In reading, we will continue our work with summarizing what we see in pictures and what we read in text and using fix-up monitoring strategies to understand what we are reading. Our letter of the week is Ll. (Last week, we worked on Ww.) We will practice writing the letter, making the "l" sound, and identifying and making words with the letter Ll. We are continuing our work on unit 4, which reviews and builds on the kids' understanding of addition and subtraction story problems. Their knowledge of problem solving will deepen as they create story problems for addition and subtraction numeric equations. We will continue looking for partners for 2-6 and practice visualizing teen numbers as a ten and extra ones. Our geometry concepts will also be extended as we work on making 2-dimensional patterns on triangular grids. Reminder: Math homework comes home on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is always due the following day. In Science, we have been working on the unit, Animals Two by Two. The goals of this unit are for the students to: -observe and describe the structures of a variety of common animals -fish, birds, snails, earthworms and isopods -compare structures and behaviors of different pairs of animals -observe interactions of animals with their surroundings -describe properties of objects, compare them, and sort them by properties -communicate observations and comparisons orally and through words and drawings Important Dates 2/29 Last day to turn in Butter Braid orders 3/2 Read Across America *We will read with our 3rd grade buddies as well as participate in a few special events! 3/4 February Reading Calendars are Due! 3/8 Woodland PTO meeting from 7-8 PM in media center. on Friday, we celebrated the 100th day of school! We read special stories, the kids created self portraits showing what they think they'll look like when they are 100, and we participated in a fun 100 Challenge! Take a peek at what our students will look like in about 95 years! Levy kids have PE on odd days, Lund kids have PE on even days. Please make sure your child has sneakers on PE days. Thank you!
Monday-No School! Tuesday-day 1 Wednesday-day 2 Thursday-day 3 Friday-day 4 What's Happening This Week? Better yet, what's been happening for the last three weeks! We apologize for the missing weekly updates! Over the past three weeks, we continued our work on unit 3 in math, with an end-of unit test on February 10th. Our reading unit was all about making inferences in books and making connections to understand text. We worked very hard on these concepts, and even learned a fun song (to the tune "My Bonny Lies Over the Ocean) to help us understand how inferring works! Now that we are caught up, here is what's happening now! We will begin a new reading unit this week. We will learn to summarize what we see in pictures and read in text and use fix-up monitoring strategies to understand what we are reading. Our letter of the week is Dd. We will practice writing the letter, making the "d" sound, and identifying and making words with the letter Dd. We will also begin a new unit in math. Unit 4 reviews and builds on the kids' understanding of addition and subtraction story problems. Their knowledge of problem solving will deepen as they create story problems for addition and subtraction numeric equations. We will continue looking for partners for 2-6 and practice visualizing teen numbers as a ten and extra ones. We identified the many types of lines artists used, and made our own with chalk! We then used our work to create winter art to decorate our hallway. Be sure to check it out! On Tuesday, we spent a little time talking about groundhogs and the traditions around Groundhog's Day. The kids each made a prediction about whether the groundhog would see his shadow, then we looked up the result and discovered that Puxatawnee Phil did NOT see his shadow. This means we will see an early spring! Let's hope Phil knows something we don't!
