Today was a fun-filled day! We completed a pumpkin exploration where the kids made predictions and documented their findings about a real pumpkin. We also had our Fall Party this afternoon. Thank you to all the parents and friends of the classroom that helped out-the kids had a blast! Have a great evening, and if you will be headed out trick-or-treating, we hope you stay warm and dry!

We know many of the children are looking forward to Halloween this evening! We are offering some extra credit work for anyone who is interested. After collecting candy tonight, have your child sort his or her candy on the floor or a table according to whatever attributes (brand, filling, size, first letter...) they like, and make it into a life-size graph (no graph paper needed). After the sorting, please take a picture of your child with his or her graph and send it in to school when you have completed the activity. *It is easiest if you can email it to Mrs. Levy at [email protected]. If your child does not collect candy on Halloween, you can have him or her sort something else in the house (buttons, socks, cans of soup...) and take a photograph of his or her work. Graphing is a skill the kids will work on throughout their academic careers, and opportunities to make and talk about graphs will enhance their learning both at home and at school. Please click HERE to see what our students did last year!
We have had a busy week looking and listening for the main idea and details in books, working with numbers and letter sounds. We had a fun guest reader this afternoon-Ella's dad, Mr. Beard read "There Was a Coyote Who Swallowed a Flea" to the class. The kids loved it-thank you! Parents, if you would ever like to stop in and read a story to the class, please let us know and we will work it out! Have a great weekend! Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are so excited to spend time with you talking about your children! Our conference scheduling is done online, so please sign up for the date and time that works best for you at http://www.ptcfast.com/schools/Woodland_Elementary_School at your earliest convenience. Once you are on the site, select the homeroom teacher names for all of your children's teachers and then you can see the available times. (Be sure to select EITHER Lund or Levy, depending on your child's homeroom teacher.) Thank you! If you do not have internet access or have problems with scheduling, please call our school office at 763.315.6400, and someone can help you. We wrapped up our short week working with our buddy class and celebrating Unity Day. We gathered together as a building to unveil our new Buddy Bench which will be used on the playground to provide a place to go for help when kids are looking for a friend. We also put the two letters we've been working on (Mm and Aa), and started making words together. With the help of our special middle school volunteers today, we all got to make our own 'word sliders'. Enjoy the long weekend! Hi Everyone! This week marks our official start of the reading curriculum! We have spent time getting routines in place and working on a variety of activities, and now we will begin our Benchmark curriculum. In our phonics studies, we will work with the letters Mm and Aa. Our language arts focus will last three weeks, and the children will be learning how to identify main idea and details in pictures and stories. Wednesday is Unity Day-please help your child remember to wear orange! Wednesday is also our second community dinner night-thus time it will be at the Brooklyn Center Chipotle. 50% of the proceeds go to Woodland if you let the employees know you are from our school! Thank you for all of your support! If you are looking for something to do this weekend, the Brooklyn Park Fire Deparrment is opening its doors to the public! See below for more information :-)
Hi Everyone!
A few quick reminders: Tomorrow is our media center day-the children should bring their library books back to school. Student Council has also seemed tomorrow (Wednesday) a School Spirit Day! We are celebrating with a Pajama Day; kids are invited to wear school-appropriate PJs all day. :-) Thursday morning is our Woodland Kindergarten Meet and Greet from 8:30-9:30 AM. It will be in the school media center, and it's a great opportunity to connect with other kindergarten parents! Childcare will be provided. We hope you can make it! Hi Parents!
Thank you to the many families who have so generously donated to our classroom! We have a "Donation Spot" set up in our room, and many of you found something to contribute-it helps so much! As we find what the children enjoy most, as well as things we will need for instruction, we will add to the donation spot. We hope to set up a page on our site with items we'd like soon, but in the meantime, we thought we would just post a few things we would love to have donated to our room. New or gently used children's cash register (for dramatic play) New or gently used dollhouse furniture New or gently used dollhouse people Bingo daubers (for art/craft activities) New or gently used clothes for dress-up/dramatic play (adult or child-sized uniforms, suit coats, aprons, dresses, costumes, purses, briefcases...) No hats, please. Thank you all so much! Thank you to everyone who ordered books from our September book order! Because of the large order, we were able to select a great variety of free books for our classroom library-thank you so much! Below is a photo of the books that will be available for our students to borrow and read, thanks to your orders.
A new October book order went home yesterday. This order will close on October 21st. Again, you can use the paper book order to select books, OR you can order online. When you order online, you have access to many more catalogs (with a wider variety of reading selections, in case you are shopping for siblings as well). The kindergarten book orders have many great choices, including excellent pre-reader, sight word and early reader books and activities. We have a page in our menu that provides instructions for online ordering, and you can even access the page HERE. Happy reading! |
