The kids are bringing home their new October reading calendars today. Please complete and return September reading calendars by Wednesday, October 5th, so your child can participate in the reading calendar reward for September.
If your child didn't meet the goal for September, please help them work towards meeting the October goal. Thanks! We had a great time at Eidem Farm this morning! Thank you to all of our awesome volunteers-everything went so smoothly! Be sure to ask your children about what life was like on a farm in the early 1900s! As promised, here are our 'pencil grip' pictures! We remind the kids that pointer sits on top of the pencil, thumbkin is on the side, and 'tall man' (middle finger) is a couch for the pencil. We are working on another piece of our Daily Five routine, Read to Someone. The kids really worked hard reading with their partners today! They know they can read the words, read the pictures or retell a story. Today we learned about straight stick and slanted stick lines, and identified the letters that are made with only straight and slanted lines. The kids practiced holding their pencil the school way while they wrote straight and slanted lines. We noticed a lot of improvement in their pencil grips today! Our first kindergarten field trip will be this Thursday! We will go to the farm in the morning, so please be sure your child is wearing weather-appropriate clothing. We sent home the tie-dyed t-shirts today (our class color is blue). Please have your child wear the shirt on all of our field trips. They can wear it any other time, as well! Additionally, if there is ever a time where you can not locate the shirt for a field trip, please try to send your child wearing our class color, blue. Thanks!
In Writer's Workshop, the children have learned that there are many types of writing, and that even if we are not ready to write real letters, we can all get our thoughts and stories on paper. We wrote a story using all symbols this afternoon, called "Let's Walk to the Park". See if your child can read it to you!
It has been a great week in kindergarten! Today, our math and science both focused on sorting and identifying similarities and differences. The kids worked in pairs and small groups to discuss different attributes of seashells in science as well as shape/attribute blocks in math. Have a wonderful weekend! Today, we reviewed what we've learned about bus safety on a REAL school bus! We also graphed our favorite colors and worked on using a 'school' pencil grip. (The pencil grip photos will come soon!) |
