School starts this Tuesday, September 4th! The Levy kids will have music on their first day, and Lund kids will have Physical Education (PE). These are our specialist activities, and they alternate daily (for example, on the second day of school, Levy has PE and Lund has music, then on day 3, Levy will go back to music and Lund to PE).
We use the first six weeks of school to build relationships, learn routines, learn about building expectations, and teach about the Zones of Regulation. We will also do some fun activities with colors, celebrating one color a day between 9/5 and 9/18. We have a new math curriculum this year, Bridges in Mathematics, and we are very excited about how comprehensive and hands-on it is in comparison to what we have been provided in the past! We will send family letters home with each new unit, and will share information about the skills we are working on.

Welcome to Woodland! We are so excited for a new school year! We have been at Woodland since the building first opened it's doors MANY years ago, but we know that lots of our families are brand new to our school and our routines!
We are hoping this blog post will be one that parents feel comfortable adding information to throughout the year to help everyone feel like they have been part of Woodland since Day One. Parents (past and current), please add your tips and/or questions to the comments if you think families can benefit. Thank you all! To start us off, we will share some insider tips that not everyone may know: *We celebrate "Superhero Thursdays" at Woodland: Every Thursday, many staff and students wear superhero shirts, socks or other gear (within dress code guidelines). *Parents may join their children for lunch ANY DAY! (Please try to avoid the first week or two of the school year as we establish routines.) You can call ahead to let the cooks know if you want to eat school lunch, or you can bring something for you (and your child) to eat. This year, our lunch time is 11:45. *Breakfast is FREE for ALL KINDERGARTENERS! *Label ANYTHING that will not be attached to your child all day. (Lunchboxes, water bottles, boots, sweatshirts, jackets...) Fabric paint works GREAT on mittens and boots, and silver Sharpies are excellent on dark fabrics! *PTO NEEDS VOLUNTEERS, and it really is a great way to get to know more families! Consider helping with a school event (you can ask another parent to Co-Chair with you)-or just attend a meeting! This list is just a start...please comment below with anything school or Woodland-related that you've wondered about or are glad you knew! All the teachers and school staff are busy getting rooms ready for the school year today, and we are all so excited to meet our new students tonight! Open House is from 5:30-7:00 PM, Wednesday August 29th. If your child was enrolled by the beginning of last week, you should have received a letter in the mail from school with all kinds of important information including your child's classroom teacher assignment. (See the sample letter below: PLEASE NOTE- THE LETTER ASKS PARENTS TO COMPLETE AN ONLINE QUESTIONNAIRE...WE WILL NOT NEED THIS FOR OUR KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS. WE HAVE A FEW OTHER FORMS THAT WILL GIVE US THE SAME INFORMATION (AND MORE), SO NO NEED TO DO THE EXTRA WORK!
